For various reasons, it can be very nice to close an open staircase. Often the reason is heat loss or because it simply looks nicer. You can use various materials for such a project; but plywood poplar primed is very popular. This material is sturdy and can be painted directly due to the base layer. The project is easy to do yourself; especially if you order the risers online and have them delivered sawn.

Description of Montana

I turned my open staircase into a closed staircase with the custom-made risers that I ordered online . Of course it saves a lot of money if you buy the large MDF panels in their entirety at the hardware store, but believe me... this has saved a lot of time and customization. I am not a great at sawing neatly, so I am happy with the order. I finished closing the stairs within half a day.

How I made this project

First I googled the best way to close an open staircase with 2 turning can close. After a long, clear search, I came across this handy webshop. I saw beautiful photos with clear descriptions of DIY projects on the website and that made me choose to take on this project. I have recorded the measurements from point to point per step. An existing order from another buyer was easily taken over and the sizes per step were adjusted to my measurements. Super easy. When the order arrived after two weeks, I immediately got to work. To my luck, all the plates were a perfect fit except for a few millimeters. Sometimes some fine-tuning, but that was nothing. I screwed the plates directly into the stairs and secured them to the top with slats on the upper steps. These records aren't going anywhere now. Thanks to the other DIY projects, I also bought a quite expensive Wolfgang tool, but unfortunately it was not suitable for the sheet thickness I ordered, hence the slats, etc. All in all... very satisfied and a project that I was really looking forward to. still completed quickly, thanks to the professional sawing.
